Museum Dorestad. |
|
The last
event of the season. We had again been invited to
the local museum (Museum Dorestad) at
Wijk bij Duurstede for the third year in
succession (2004, 2005), and as
usual we really looked forward to return there.
This year we would be the only re-enactors,
because due to the holidays the week after, the
museum had invited us a week early, just for us!
Imagine how honoured we were.. Thank you Lisette!
The kids really like to go to this event. Jeroen
comes with we every time we go to the tower, but
Marrit is not so eager usually. In this case,
it's different. For one, it's a short day, and
it's not far away. But Museum Dorestad is also a
very friendly place to be. It is not very big,
but it's cosey. You can roam around as a kid, up
and down stairs, and go all kinds of interactive
stuff. The rooms are not so big either, which is
less intimidating for a child. Plus it has a nice
garden, not to mention a real old-fashioned
kitchen where we can prepare meals. Personally I
also like the interaction, which seems more
direct here than elsewhere. |

The family visited us. |
There
weren't as many visitors as last year, due to the fact
that we were there a week before History Day. But the
local History Society was visiting the museum, and we had
some nice in-depth discussions with the local experts!
Among them was an 80-year old woman who had once been
living in this place - in fact we had set up our display
in her former bedroom!
And another nice surprise was the visit of my in-laws,
who took the opportunity of one of the last fine days of
the year to have a look at what we were doing. All in all
a very good day to end the year with.
