Fectio Index

The last event of the season. We had been invited to the local museum (Museum Dorestad) at Wijk bij Duurstede once before last year, and we rallied at the prospect to return. The kids had been with us for the first time then, and the museum invited them especially. So we had much to look forward to. No Vikings this year, but members from all Dutch Roman groups; Fectio of course, but also Legio X Gemina, Corbvlo, and Legio II (NL). Too bad that Andreas/Chariovalda had to pass at the last minute because of the flu, our first casulaty of the year!

The visitors were many and friendly, just like last year. The kids did fine, they were not bored at all, constantly roaming around or showing stuff to the public. We had the same spot as last year, in the Roman section, surrounded by Roman and Germanic finds from the period including several from Late Roman times. Which was good because at some point the rain came down in a fierce downpoor! The museum people were very nice, coming to feed the kids sweets or drinks, which made us feel all the more welcome. Like last year, a high point of the season - a very good one to end it with.
