No letup in the
hot weather, but gradually the sky became more and more
overcast during the day. When the clouds finally broke
and the first (after weeks of drought very welcome!)
raindrops fell down of our patch of Roman soild, the last
show was just about over.
13.00-13.40 Parade through
the entire park & Presentation in
the Arena (all groups), followed by live missile
firing outside the arena.
Once
again we did our drill in the arena. This time without
the Septimani who had to return home, but we
kept up to strength with the aid of Mark Schräder and
Michele Winand, two members of Legio I Minerva
who had joined us for the last day. Super that you could
join us guys!

The barrage however was not under strength, quite the
contrary! Arrows, javelins, plumbatae, the whole
inventory was hurled against our small fulcum!
After the barrage, the Teuxandrii and Helge can
be seen gathering their ammunition.

At the end of the show, of course we charged the public!
Great show guys.
The
javelin and plumbatae training ended with an usurpation!
Apparently
dissatisfied with their pay, the British and German units
quickly disarmed the troops from Hispania Citerior and
raised a usurper to the throne. Threatening the life of
the young emperor Valentinian III, they forced
his mother Galla Placidia to marry the new
emperor, Albanianus. Together they oversaw the
rest of the events. We're not sure what happened to the
Imperial Boy, but rumour had it that he received a nice
pension and a big villa on some lush island in the
Meditterranean..
14.00-14.30 Fashion Show:
Roman Army from 200 BC to 400 AD (I Germanica)

A new Imperial Family was watching the show of I
Germanica from the dais. Galla Placidia was the
familiar face, but her new consort, the usurper Albanianus,
looked a bit unsure. Was that why he was guarded by his
own troops and a new Germanic Scholae guard as
well? We can but guess how long this new family portrait
will remain accurate..
15.00-15.30 The Cavalry training:
the infantry form uf in close ranks to be a practise
target for the cavalry (all groups).

The cavalry training went on as if nothing had happened.
Of course our campidoctor had now moved up in
the world and watched from the dais, but the troops
trained as well as ever. Having lost his own sword, the Teuxandrii
cavalry used a Germanic one, plus the contus,
the long cavalry lance.
With all events over and the gladiatorial games being
played out, unrest was rife inside the Empire. The
Hispanic troops, robbed of their favoured position, vowed
revenge upon the troops of the upstart! An assassin was
rumoured to be around the city...
Amidst
the quiet of the town, suddenly there's an uproar. What's
this? An assassin? A masked and hooded individual
suddenly turned up in the forum where the Emperor walked
with his entourage. A knife!

Suddenly there's chaos - is the Emperor Albanianus
hurt? No, the Germanic bodyguard barely managed to catch
the assassin.. His Majesty is closely guarded after the
incident! But one could not fail to notice the glee on
the face of the empress Galla Placidia - was she
in on the plot?

Next day
it´s Monday, and we will all have to go home again! See
you all next time!
